Kisogo is a vocabulary learning app that helps you learn new words by photographing objects around you. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.

1. Information We Collect

• Email address — collected when you create an account.
• Photos — images you take or upload within the app, used to identify objects and generate vocabulary flashcards.
• Vocabulary cards — the words, translations, and example sentences generated from your photos, saved to your personal library.
• Study history — records of which cards you have reviewed, your ratings, daily review counts, and study streaks, used to power the spaced repetition system.
• App preferences — your target language, proficiency level, daily study goal, and default screen setting.

2. How We Use Your Information

• To create and maintain your account.
• To analyze photos you submit and generate vocabulary flashcards using AI.
• To schedule your flashcard reviews using a spaced repetition algorithm.
• To display your study progress, streaks, and daily goals.
• To save your preferences and restore them across sessions.

We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not sell your data to any third party.

3. How Photos Are Processed

When you submit a photo, it is sent to OpenAI (United States) for object recognition and vocabulary generation. OpenAI processes the image according to their Privacy Policy. We send only the image content — no metadata linking the image to your identity is shared with OpenAI.

We store a cropped version of your image (containing only the identified object) as part of your vocabulary card. We do not store the original full photo after processing is complete.

4. Data Storage and Location

Your account data, vocabulary cards, and study history are stored on Supabase, with servers located in Frankfurt, Germany (EU). This means your data is subject to EU data protection standards, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Our backend infrastructure is hosted on Railway (United States). Data in transit is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS.

5. Data Sharing

We share your data only with the following service providers, solely to operate the app:

• OpenAI — for image analysis and vocabulary generation.
• Supabase — for database and authentication services.
• Railway — for backend hosting.

We do not share your data with advertisers, data brokers, or any other third parties.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access your data — your vocabulary cards and study history are visible within the app at all times.
• Delete your account and all associated data — go to Settings → Delete Account. This permanently removes your account, all vocabulary cards, and all study history from our systems.
• Correct your information — you can update your email, language settings, and preferences directly within the app.
• Object to processing — you may contact us at any time to raise concerns about how your data is handled.

If you are located in the European Union, you also have rights under the GDPR, including the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

7. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all associated data is permanently deleted from our systems within 30 days.

8. Children's Privacy

Kisogo is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
